Data Lab · Live LiDAR sample

Spin a realNorthland point cloud.

Real multi-return LiDAR over rural Whangārei — steep bush gullies, pasture and regenerating scrub — streamed straight into your browser. Orbit it, strip the canopy, read the returns. This is the kind of classified dataset that lands on your desk after a Helix mission.

◇ How to read it

Three things the cloudis telling you.

Canopy penetration

Switch to Returns and watch 2nd, 3rd and 4th returns light up under the canopy. Those later returns are what let LiDAR build a terrain model beneath 20 m of pine and kānuka — photogrammetry stops at the leaves.

Classified bare earth

Toggle Bare earth only. What remains is the classified ground return set — the foundation of every DTM, contour, slope raster and cut/fill surface we deliver as .LAS/.LAZ, GeoTIFF and 12d.

Intensity as a second sensor

Intensity shading separates wet ground, sealed surfaces, pasture and scrub without a camera — useful for wetland extents, slip scars and drain networks in coastal and catchment monitoring.
